In Spain, more than 118,000 tons of steel and aluminum beverage cans were recycled in 2018, which places this container at a recycling rate of 86%, according to data made public by the Association of Beverage Cans. Specifically, the recycling rate of aluminum beverage cans increased last year to 71%, while that of steel cans remained above 95%. This packaging waste was recycled in the manufacture of all types of metal products (including cans), avoiding the extraction of raw materials and generating significant energy savings. These good results reaffirm the commitment of the sector with the objective of reaching a 100% recycling rate. Therefore, the members of the association and their suppliers are confident that the recycling of these containers will continue to increase in the next decade, both in Spain and in Europe.
